I have to admit I have not been to any of the Hix Restaurants but I did eat Mark Hixs’ food at The Ivy and Le Caprice many years ago and very good it was. However, I wasn’t even aware of him as a chef until I saw The Great British Menu 2007 on BBC2, where…
Lieutenant No.1 went out on his own – ‘how very dare he!’ He went to Duke’s Brew & Que. Here is his report: Stylish, hip BBQ joint. It had the feel of a bona fide Brooklyn restaurant. A great inside bar and restaurant with space outside streetside too. The beef ribs were the best I’ve…
This review came in from Brian Jensen in 2012: “Why not go to a place in Thailand with 100 % wheelchair access. New villa in Hua Hin, 200 km from Bangkok http://www.careresorts.com. I have been there many times, and I know it’s perfect. There is room for 8-10 person, and 4 of the bedroom/bathrooms are accessible…
I am pleased to report that after seeing one of the ten disabled rooms in the St. Martins Lane hotel, that we can now give them 3 BBS Ticks. The rooms are minimalist and need extra grab rails in the shower but the fact they have 10 such rooms is unusual to say the Least. Some are…
I have reviewed Assaggi as I went there when I could walk with sticks. It’s in a room above The Chepstow pub in Chepstow Place and is up a flight of stairs! Totally inaccessible by wheelchair, unless you’re carried, but if you can make stairs it’s worth the effort. There is no disabled toilet either…
Asia De Cuba at st. Martin’s Lane hotel is a great night out. I’ve been there many times and the food but especially the drinks are great. It serves Asian and Cuban cuisine, as the name suggests ,and it’s served in a ‘sharing-style’. I love the decor of the restaurant and the lively atmosphere. The access is…
Update June 2013: A friend of BBS has concurred that Aqua Spirit is trendy & Accessible, thanks Christiane. They get a full 2 BBS Ticks! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. I haven’t been to the bar at Aqua Spirit yet but I’ve been told I will like it. They also have a Spanish and a Japanese restaurant. They also, apparently,…
Usually I avoid ‘chain’ bars like All-Bar-One but in Richmond it’s convenient for shopping. The drinks are good but the food is questionable. However, they have a disabled toilet and a platform lift to get in. I actually tipped out of it drunk one night as the lip to the lift is a bit steep…
The Albany is a gastro pub by the river hidden away, just down from Hampton Court. I’ve included it as it is good for where it is. Great terrace by the river, ramp access (bit steep) and a decent disabled toilet. Food is OK but it’s the river you go for. The Albany gets 2 BBS Ticks
