Listing Description

Update 2017: On our recent Bar Crawl for Disabled Access Day we tried to have a drink at Rules. We got in OK but weren’t allowed a drink downstairs as the bar license is only for upstairs. We would have understood but they kept quoting they were an old, Grade II Listed Building, at which point I had to point out this was no excuse. Come on Rules get a license for downstairs for wheelchair users!!

……………………………………………………………………………………..

Rules restaurant in Covent Garden serves “classic game cookery, oysters, pies and puddings”. It’s on the ground floor which they say is accessible. I went years ago and I remember the food was good. The Cocktail Bar (Upstairs at Rules) is meant to be one of the best bars in London, hence the reason for the review, however it’s NOT accessible – there are stairs with 20+ steps. The toilets are on the upper floor as well, so no wheelchair accessible facility.

The oldest British restaurant doesn’t really cater for disability.  The restaurant would be ok but that’s not where I want to go.

Rues Oldest London Restaurant Has Access to Ground Floor……
Serves Traditional British Food in a Traditioal British Atmoshere??
No Drinking Without Food Downstairs & Bar is Upstairs (20 Steps)

BTW you can’t wear shorts – they will refuse you entry! Even if they’re Chanel ones??

Due to the access and lack of toilet facilities we can only award Rules 1.5 BBS Ticks. Would love to give more and maybe there are things they can do – a BBS Audit is needed!?
