Dec 2015: Unfortunately Le Cercle is no more. However now another restaurant/bar has located there – Canvas – designed to provide an ‘indulgent dining experience with high standards in a trendy environment’. There’s a bar area and a private dining room as well as special events for members of their club. You can however just book a reservation for lunch or dinner. Not tried it yet but the accessibility is as before i.e. through the building next door and using their lift (see review below). It’s still modern french/euro cooking with cocktails and a wine list from £28-£500+. They still receive 2.5 BBS Ticks.

2014: Last saturday our Wheeled in Chelsea Competition Winner, James from Oliver James Garden rooms claimed his meal for two having written a funny piece on being partially bind on holiday in Sardinia – it involved a sun-bed & sun cream, give it a read.

I chose Le Cercle for James and his girlfriend Jenny, however they insisted I join them even though I wasn’t part of the prize!! Appropriately this french restaurant is in Chelsea, it’s accessed via a lift in the building next door so you need to prepare them for your arrival. This I did and it all went well until the waiter pushing me had problems opening the door that accesses the restaurant and there was a lip in the floor that jolted me when he hit it head on.

There are quite few stairs if you’re ambulant disabled and the disabled toilet is adequate but beware of the slight slope and multiple doors you need to traverse before you get there. The bar is on ground level but the disabled toilet is in the basement/restaurant level.

They have Sharing Plates, A La Carte & a Set Lunch which we went for (£19.50 for 2 courses & £24.50 for 2). It was very good, in spite of a sparse Fig Salad starter, and the main courses were excellent, including the Pork Belly and the Hake. The service was a bit complicated as the Maitre’D was only two days into the job and our waitress had difficulty in understanding our need for wine. We got there in the end and had a well recommended Bordeaux from someone in the kitchen.

Part of Club Gascon, specialising in food from SW France, I definitely think they deserve their 2.5 BBS Ticks. James also promises to send more funny stories of his excursions out, with limited sight.

I also went to a conference at Canary Wharf at Level 39 , an Accelerator Space for Finance – no idea what that means. It’s in One Canada square at Canary Wharf which is incredibly accessible and you feel you can go anywhere there without a problem. The conference was Women Shift Digital and looked at how women are represented in a digital economy, really interesting have a look at their link. I only went for the Networking and I met again the artist Anna Dumitriu, who designed the ‘sociable robot’ – MyRobot Companion. It takes on the appearance of friends and family. They’ve invited me to come and comment on some of the robots at the robotic centre in Hatfield & I can’t wait to report back.
