Update June 2015: Hoi Polloi is exceptionally accessible and has a well designed disabled loo. The hotel is also accessible and uber trendy as you’d expect of a Shoreditch hotel. Really cool music played throughout, is well lit and with smooth flooring. Audited 2.5 BBS Ticks

Update Oct 2013: The Crowne Plaza is now the Ace Hotel and the restaurant is Hoi Polloi , created by the people from Bistrotheque. Described as “an English modernist brasserie”. If it’s anything like Bistrotheque it should be good.

Full review will follow but on the surface it seems that accessibility and facilities remain the same i.e.very good with walk-in showers in the disabled rooms and a ramp entrance to the hotel with disabled toilets in both the lobby and the restaurant.

MSN Travel says,

“The hyper cool hotel chain, which has outposts in Seattle, Portland, Palm Springs and New York, is the pioneer of a new growing breed of the anti-chain, egalitarian, live-like-a-local type of accommodation”…. How can a chain be an anti-chain??

The musical element of Hoi Polloi also sounds great as there’s a piano:

“BEAT Magazine presents surprise musical performances at the piano and The Lovely Jonjo will provide playlists”.

We’re looking forward to going as it looks and sounds very trendy. However we’re not sure if the style is a little ‘forced’ from looking at the website. They could also do with one of our Galleries, as per the Hoxton, as it took a lot of enquiries over the phone to find out what the accessibility & facilities were like and even then we can’t be sure of grab rail positioning or if a wet room has a ‘tiny’ step to get in!!.

Something for the BBS Bonfire i.e. no visual access information on hotel or restaurant websites!!!!

Provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks for style & retaining accessibility.

Oct 2012: When we called The Globe they told us there is a slope up to the hotel and a lift to the 7th floor where this restaurant overlooks. the City and all it’s skyscrapers. There are no steps in the restaurant and we’re told it is spacious inside and there is a disabled toilet. The Saints bar serves fresh cocktails.

The Globe restaurant gets provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks
