What To Know.
Disability News Service has that the new Government has seen a huge decrease in the number of disabled MPs compared to the last. Apparently this years elections have left only two politicians – Paul Maynard and Robert Halfon – as the only ones “who would self-describe as disabled people.” But don’t fear Labour’s Neil Coyle has been elected and even though he’s not a less-able person himself, he does apparently have a “very impressive track record in disability rights, having worked at senior levels for the Disability Rights Commission and the disability charities Disability Alliance and Disability Rights UK.” So maybe there is some hope!
Where To Go.
If you can’t wait for summer holidays and have decide to get away for a few days, how about a trip to Edinbrugh’s Palace of Holyrood. The Palace still often hosts the Royal Family, The Queen goes every year for Holyrood week – which is a week where the Scottish Culture is celebrate. I did spend the day here a few years ago, it’s an absolutely stunning Palace and if it’s a sunny day do check out the grounds if you can – they do have pretty good disabled access from what I can remember and see on their wesbite, not only for mobility but also for those who might need visual or hearing aids during their visit. Check out our venue list for our review of the Palace.
