Listing Description

Holyrood Palace is in Edinburgh and is absolutely gorgeous palace! I went here a few years ago with a friend of mine, when we were there it was a beautifully sunny day (even though it was October!), we spent a long time walking around the grounds of the palace and got a coffee in their cafe which was really lovely!

The history of the Palace of Holyrood is pretty long, with over 9 centuries of history! Although it is still officially a residence of the Royal family with the Queen spending one week of the year there, at the beginning of summer to carry out some official duties. There are many parts of the castle open all year around including the historic Apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots.

On to the disabled access, there is a lot mroe detailed information on their website but to summarise… Although there are steps in some area of the palace if you inform the head guard on duty they will help you in anyway they can. Throughout the castle there are wooden floorboard or plush carpets, in the abbey there is gravel – which could cause a problem for those in wheelchairs or perhaps even on sticks. They do also have a disabled toilet and an accessible cafe. Further to all this they also offer guided tours, audio transcript for those who suffer from deafness, for the visually impaired there are audio tours and guide dogs are also welcome.
