As I mentioned last week I was looking forward to going to the theatre and seeing The Book of Mormon with Lieutenant No.2. The Independent said it’s  a “wilfully offensive, sharply funny musical”, from the creators of South Park, (Trey Parker and Matt Stone). I’d heard about it when it was on Broadway and won 9 Tony Awards and unusually a  Grammy Award for best musical theater album .

What an experience, it was the funnest thing I’ve ever seen on stage. It was black, ‘nothing off limits’ humour – my favourite – plus some really sharp dancing and good, memorable songs (not something you always get from a musical)!! The performances were exceptional and worthy of all the awards I’m sure they’ll get in the UK. It’s not for the politically correct, more for someone who can take a joke at anyone’s expense. I’ve seen Parker and Stone being interviewed and they were extremely eloquent and funny and they subsequently became top of my imaginary dinner party wish list!. I can’t recommend the show highly enough and it made me smile all through the following day.

As for The Prince of Wales Theatre it’s really easy to get around, with plenty of disabled toilets and a lift. It’s obviously been refurbished with disability in mind. They make every effort to ensure you have a good time to the extent that you get a personal escort to get you to your seat and interval drinks on time. Well done Delfont Mackintosh for making this one of the most disabled friendly theatres in London. They get 3 BBS Ticks!

Book of Mormon, funny, irreverent (to say the least) with sharp dancing and memorable songs

After the show we weren’t sure where to go as it finished at 10pm so the night was young. After asking our escort who mentioned a couple of places we opted for the nearest as it was bitterly cold i.e. the Empire Casino, Carlsberg Sports Bar in Leicester square. After a couple of noisy lifts down we got to the bar where I found myself watching darts, wrestling and golf all at once. We had chicken wings, a burger, 2 drinks and cheesy chips all for £20. Who says I’m an expensive date!? I can honestly say the whole night was enjoyable as I had a laugh and enjoyed a new experience, cheesy chips!!

So the next day, Good Friday, had a hard act to follow. I went to Lima near Charlotte St., where I and the Musical Lieutenant and her brother (The Lieutenant With No Name yet) had lunch. The cuisine is ‘contemporary Peruvian’ and the restaurant is quite small with a step in and no disabled toilet, but it is the latest place to go!!? The food was unusual and very tasty and the Ceviche of Sea Bream with Tiger’s milk is amazing along with the dessert of ‘chanchamayo organic coffee ice cream, amazonian herbs & coconut powder’. Lima is highly recommended but not as entertaining as The Book of Mormon. They get 2 BBS Ticks. We finished the meal off with a cocktail at the Charlotte St Hotel which is fast becoming my favourite place for drinks.

Lima – Small but great food, 2 BBS Ticks as no disabled toilet.
