Oscar Bar & Restaurant is in The Charlotte St Hotel  near Soho, London. I went here after a visit to Roka restaurant in the same street. The bar on that occasion was full so we sat in the lounge with a drink whilst waiting for a taxi. It was quiet and comfortable but not as lively as Oscar’s bar so I decided to re-visit the other week. Charlotte Street is full of busy bars and restaurants and is now one of the trendier parts of London. Oscar was definitely in this vein, with plenty of people drinking champagne and cocktails. The clientele seemed very “Media” and we had to encroach on the restaurant as we were overspill from the bar. I and Lieutenant No.2 had some beautiful Gavi di Gavi and tapas, which was very good, especially the calamari.

Access to the hotel is via 2 steps – there are no handrails but the doorman is helpful as long as he sees you! They have a portable ramp for wheelchair users but my Lieutenant managed without using it. The bar was a bit cramped in a wheelchair but that’s the price you pay for a lively atmosphere.  The disabled toilet is downstairs via a lift in the reception of the hotel (I didn’t visit though).

Oscar gets 2.5 BBS Ticks for style & cramped accessibility.
