Aminaka Wilmont’s show was highlighted by the appearance of the obligatory celebrity, Sienna Miller, in one of their outfits (see previous review of LFW). Their clothes can be bought at Selfridges & Net-A-Porter amongst other places and are expensive but some of what they showed may be copied for the High St. It’s therefore worth noting some of the outfits that are accessible for a ‘sitting down’ life!

The partnership of Maki & Marcus produce

“a darkly beautiful landscape of compelling and pioneering drapery merged with complex limitless tailoring”.

They’re also famous for their monochrome prints, one of which Sienna was wearing. The AW13 collection had the same grey/black/white tones in different prints. The tailoring included a short leather Jacket, a jacket with de-constructed sleeves and plenty of caped tops – both at the front and back with long leather gloves. I loved all of these as they’re easily worn in a wheelchair. In particular the capes (they can hide my stomach when sitting) and the gloves which are really elegant and good for wheel pushing – if a little extravagant for just keeping your hands clean and free from calluses.

Even ‘High Fashion’ can be wearable!!

Loose cape effect hides stomach!! Long gloves help wheeling!!

Great to see long skirts are still 'in' & short jackets for looking good seated.

A wheelchair gets you a front row seat view!!

Love the dress very wearable as not too short and loose- hiding any lumps & bumps.

Hi there, I recently discovered this website and I am loving it! I’m a
SCI wheelchair user aged 24, so still wanting to enjoy all things another
other girl would do! I am currently looking for a good beauty salon (for
waxing, primarily) hopefully not a million miles away from my house in
Balham (or just generally in SW London). I’m looking for somewhere
step-free, with a ‘couch’ that will lower so I can access it more easily.
I’m sure you can understand that I don’t want to have to try out lots of
different places. I have been using someone who comes to the house but
she is proving not so reliable. I know places like Harrods do this but I
am not keen on forking out masses for a wax (though am keen on good
quality!) I hope you’ll be able to help me. I have some further
recommendations and a list of accessible theatres in London so if you’d
like any tips, I’d be happy to share.
    Kind regards
    Sophie
