Listing Description

The White Swan has been around since 1787 and has gone through many incarnations. It is now a restaurant and bar/pub. It certainly looks and feels like an old pub with the addition of a conservatory and courtyard at the back.

The White Swan Off Richmond Green, Uneven Access But Worth The Effort
The White Swan Off Richmond Green, Uneven Access But Worth The Effort

Near the River Thames and just down from Richmond Green (where there’s pay & display parking) it’s in a narrow street with tricky access. However, it’s worth the trip as the food is excellent and the staff are equally welcoming and efficient. I recommend the ‘sea bass on herb roasted new potatoes with marsh samphire & a pomegranate salsa’ – delicious! They also have light snacks and sandwiches such as ‘Tuna, jalapeno, salad and mayo on baguette’. The wines list is good, very reasonably priced and extensive – Gavi di Gavi £26.50, Puligny Montrachet £49.95, Argentinian Malbec £29.95 . There’s also a wide range of draught & bottled beers and ciders.

The Ramp to The Courtyard. Plenty of Room and Accessible Tables (not in view)

Access from the street is flat but the pavement is a little uneven. The front doorway is narrow and there’s a small step however, once inside the floors are flat and smooth. The bar/pub area is small and can be quite dark but the conservatory /dining room is lighter. There’s a ramp into the courtyard which is bigger than it looks, with crazy paving. There’s not a great deal of room for manoeuvre but it is certainly achievable and the staff are very obliging. I really like going here just for the wine but there’s no room for a disabled toilet and the nearest is at Jamie’s Italian off the green, in king St. – a good 10 minute wheel away – so don’t drink too much!!

The White Swan gets 2 BBS Ticks and it’s definitely worth a visit.
