The White Bear is a charming Grade II listed country inn dating back to the 16th century nestling between two farms in the tiny hamlet of Fickleshole, near Warlingham in Surrey. The inn is a hidden gem known locally for its good food, real ales and tranquil rural surroundings. Their menu is full of British classics like fish and chips and homemade pies, but they are renowned for their succulent fillet and sirloin steaks served on hot skillets. Perfectly situated in the heart of the North Downs, The White Bear allows for a relaxed day out.

“The White Bear Entrance From Disabled Parking Is Very Difficult”

Bryn Pond booked The White Bear for “easy access and no steps” however the “entrance from disabled parking was very difficult and getting to the table proved a challenged as the venue was very cramped.” Even worse, there was no disabled toilet. Although staff offered to take Bryn to the bathroom, they were unable to follow through as there were too many steps making it difficult to get the wheelchair user to the upstairs bathroom. Bryn was understandably “very disappointed and upset as The White Bear did not live up to its reputation.”

The White Bear is popular among locals for its good food, rural surroundings and old world charm. If you are ambulant disabled then this venue is definitely worth a visit. This venue is not recommended to wheelchair users for its lack of accessibility.
