Listing Description

The new restaurant from the man behind the Michelin Starred Star Inn at Harome, Andrew Pern, is The Star Inn The Harbour in Whitby. Whitby is located on the cliffs on the East coast of Yorkshire and as a town is quite difficult to negotiate if you’re less able. Located in the old tourist information centre it’s got a nautical theme without being too ‘Captain Birdseye’.

What’s exciting about this venue is it’s accessibility and the fact they give details on their website. Apart from that they specialise in catch of the day food and ‘furred and feathered game’ from the moors. Desserts come from the ice cream parlour with ‘some childhood classics, brought up to date’.

Not Too Captain Birdseye??

The Guardian says of the ‘Padstow of the North’,

“Starters include woof soup: “Scarborough woof” is a local name for the Atlantic wolffish. Mains include Whitby crab salad with seashore vegetables and avocado ice-cream. Those two dishes are £7 and £16 respectively”……………….There are also bar bites such as tempura batter whitebait (£3.50), shellfish crackers with guacamole and pickled cockles and mussels (£4).

Access to the restaurant is “via the main entrance and Ice Cream Parlour entrances. Cars can be parked in the public carpark to the rear of the Restaurant, whilst wheelchair users or those with restricted mobility are exiting a vehicle and there is level access from the car park to the front of the building.” There’s also a fully refurbished disabled toilet.

It all sounds like the beginning of something good in Whitby and they get 2.5 BBS Ticks.
