Our Lieutenant’s Elaine and Max visited Phonox saying it was a great club with the latest sounds such as DJs Hunee (hear him) and Sassy J (a music lover, promoter and handcrafting artist.). It’s in the centre of Brixton and near the O2 Academy (here’s a review of O2 by wheelchair user Alex). Timeout says Phonox is a club for clubbers – not sure what else a club can be?? Anyway, once there our Lieutenants met a wheelchair user, Ceniz, here’s what he said about the club…

“some clubs are not accessible but this one was perfect…..the disabled toilet was …spacious with easy access”.

They’re not a members club and say

“We’re serious about building a community – this is why we want to make sure the Phonox family is treated well. We’re not a members-only club (you don’t have to be a member to come) but memberships are available. Members at Phonox can expect queue jump on Saturdays, special pre-sale opportunities and access to members’ events and sold out shows”…….

Refreshing change to all those clubs where I’ve been refused entry (Ed.)

There appears to be booths in a basement bar, we’ve asked if they’re accessible here’s what they said

‘We have ground level wheelchair access at Phonox with a fully equipped disabled toilet. The dancefloor and main bar are on this floor as is the smoking area.

The basement is a relaxed bar with low level background music which acts as a respite area if needed from the main room. We also have a chilled outdoor space at the back of the club if our guests would like to get some fresh air. However, the basement bar has 17 steps down but with a bannister either side.’

Ceniz also mentioned that Printworks, Fire and Ministry of Sound as being accessible so we’ll audit them soon.
