Listing Description

Here at BBS we love reviews from our followers and here is one such review of Pea Porridge in Bury St Edmunds, a place that the Guardian said “shines like Venus rising from some murky waves”. They’re referring to the mass invasion of chain restaurants in our city centres & couldn’t agree more.

Having just returned from Suffolk (Bury St Edmunds) I just wanted to let you know of a superb gastronome restaurant I was taken to.

It is the Pea Porridge not far from the centre, drivable and parking is in front (limited spaces). I use a walker and I was able to get in there with it and park it up out of the way and close to where I was sitting.  Admittedly I did not use the loos so, sorry, but I’m not able to comment. I think there is seating at the rear where a wheel chair could be accommodated but it is quite tight inside for manoeuvrability although I am sure if you contacted the owner they would advise accordingly.

The food there is heaven, unusual, very tasty, fresh & beautifully cooked.  There are two ‘shallowish’ steps at the two entrances.

Thank you Allyson & we contacted Pea Porridge re the toilets and they said they have no room for one and their doors are very narrow. The Old Cannon Brewery nearby does have a disabled toilet if needed. Nevertheless they do have a Michelin Bib Gourmand and their ethos is to let ‘key flavours to shine through …….with minimal fuss’. A definition of style surely!
