Listing Description

I and Lieutenant No.4 (I don’t care carer), went to the OXO Tower Brasserie the other Sunday for lunch. We were invited  by his sister who was down on a Whiskey Convention – don’t ask!? It was sunny but not warm enough to sit on the terrace even though they are both Glaswegian and used to the cold . Eight floors up on the banks of the Thames is not somewhere for a weak ‘Southerner’ like me in the middle of March. Located on the South Bank overlooking St. Paul’s Cathedral and The City the view of London is wonderful even sitting inside, as you can see from the pics.

I have been here many times and it’s always an experience. The Brasserie is very busy and can be rather noisy if you’re entertaining clients or out for a romantic dinner, so the OXO Tower Restaurant ,on the other side, is better for those occasions. Both serve very good food and the Brasserie usually has some form of musical entertainment. This Sunday you could even hear the jazz duo over the normal hubbub.

There is a disabled toilet, very clean with plenty of rails and is on the restaurant side near reception. The space between tables is not too bad and I had no problem manoeuvring around; although when it’s busy people do get in the way. The access to the tower is by lift and there is a sloping paved area from the street to the tower which is extremely even but I did need a push up it, as I say I’m a weak ‘Southerner’.

I prefer the restaurant food but the brasserie was fine and I loved the soft shell crab and the wine list is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful and are very quick at moving tables in from the terrace when the elements take over!!

I should  mention that there is a cocktail bar with an amazing array of drinks and a selection of bar snacks. So there is something for all tastes.

Always an event and the view is amazing so OXO  gets 3 BBS Ticks.
