Listing Description

OX restaurant in Belfast has had a Michelin Star since 2016 and in the 2018 Guide it retains its star along with Deanes EIPIC. here we look at it’s accessibility and style.

The Chef at OX is Stephen Toman, a local of Belfast, who has worked in the USA and France including the 3 Star venue Taillevent in Paris. The menus feature top quality meat, sustainably sourced fish and seasonal vegetables and fruit – doesn’t everyone these days? However, Jay Rayner, from the Guardian, reviewed OX and said

“It wants to celebrate the best ingredients on its doorstep, and do it with unstudied professionalism. On those terms it has more than achieved its goals. It does not need to show off. Ox knows it’s the most interesting thing to happen to Belfast in a long while.” High praise!

OX, on The Waterfront in Belfast
With ‘Industrial Design’ The Access and Lighting is Good But Acoustics May be Impaired With The High Ceilings & Hard Surfaces
Food of Seasonal Ingredients, Thoughtfully Arranged on Every Plate
Caramelised Apples From OX – Named After its Location Rather Than The Meat!

The menus are £22-£28/head for lunch and £50 for dinner. But what about accessibility? It’s a basic ‘industrial style’ restaurant, with wood flooring, high ceilings and hard surfaces – therefore acoustics may be difficult but as there aren’t too many covers it may not be too difficult to hear. It has flat access, with a ‘proper disabled toilet’ (that’s what we were told) and parking nearby. On that basis we award OX a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks
