Listing Description

The 1st of March was International Wheelchair Day and to celebrate we put together a bar crawl around the City of London. Somewhere where access can be difficult due to the number of old/ listed buildings and cobbled streets. We unleashed the readers and the people who work for us on London! And what fun we had!! There was drinking, laughter, stair lifts, ludicrous loos, getting lost, and much much more.

We used the BBS App to navigate which shows cool bars/restos/pubs near your location and rates their accessibility and disabled facilities. (Available on iPhone, iPAD & Android)

The only problem the app can’t help you if you’re drunk & disabled ??

We started at 6pm in the South Place Hotel, very civilised and we we’re given food to prepare us for #KeepRolling – highly recommend the sharing plates

and from there we rolled on to:

First was 1901 Wine Bar at the Andaz Hotel where we picked up 2 more friends one in a Tri-Kinetic wheelchair. He’d badly broken his ankle which shows anyone can become disabled at any time

But Ludicrous Loos can be found in the best places. No cat swinging in this one….. Nevertheless the access was brilliant as they had a wheelchair lift to get up the entrance stairs.

We then popped into the Magpie Pub, in New St. (yes we did find it eventually). It was lovely flat access in a very popular city pub. We then went to the Old Bengal Bar,  ‘Located in a beautiful Grade II listed building originally owned by the East India Company’. It was very lively with cool music and had an adventurous disabled lift rising over some very steep stairs but at least it proves the most difficult of listed buildings can be accessible! Designers/architects pleas note!

We put together a few shots of the lifts we encountered………..Guess which one was scariest.

We had a few in Old Bengal and lost some of the party to the buzzing atmosphere and the belly pork. Great place to go, it’s part of New Street Grill restaurant, see our previous review here. We then went on and we’ll keep you guessing as to what happened in Part 2 to be shown tomorrow……..Keep watching!!
