Listing Description

Restaurant Nathan Outlaw is a 2 Michelin Star seafood restaurant at the St Enodoc hotel in Cornwall. Nathan Outlaw has appeared on television shows such as BBC‘s Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen. The restaurant offers one evening tasting menu of “the finest sustainable seafood, caught off the Cornish coast by day boats.” It’s a unique and fantastic venue to go for dinner. In fact it’s one of the best restaurants in the country, having placed 3rd in the UK in the Good Food Guide 2014.

As well as being an essential visit for any true foodie, the Restaurant Nathan Outlaw has a commendable approach to accessibility. Not only have they shown an outstanding commitment to assisting the less able within the restaurant, they’ve also done a really good job of publicising their access by producing a detailed explanation of their disabled facilities on their website. They only ask that less able customers call in advance so that they “can help to make your experience outstanding.” Considering that you’re unlikely to be going here on a whim (good luck getting in without a reservation!) this really shouldn’t be a problem.

The restaurant has flat access for most of its entrances and a portable ramp to cover the three steps up to the hotel reception. There is an accessible toilet in the reception area, provided with adequate space for a wheelchair, grab rails, accessible sinks with lever taps and an emergency alarm pull cord. Assistance dogs are welcome, they have a hearing loop system available and will even bring you a large print copy of the menu if you desire.

It’s great to see a venue going out of their way to highlight their disabled access. OK, it’s really not very hard but so few restaurants do as much as they have here. The only thing we’d suggest is that using one of our PADs can help even more as they allow people to see the facilities rather than having to visualise what they might be like.

The access sounds well thought out and the food is supposed to be amazing – the third best in the land. Restaurant Nathan Outlaw has to get a provisional 3 BBS Ticks.
