The Nantes Radisson Blu is a 4 star hotel, in the impressive former courts of justice building, in the centre of Nantes – one of the runners up for the 2013 EU Access City Award. The Access City Awards highlight the European cities which have done the most to improve their overall level of disabled access. Since Nantes was one of two runners up, out of 99 entrants, access in public areas should be unusually good there. It therefore seems like a good place to find somewhere accessible to stay.

The Radisson Blu is one of the city’s best hotels and recently went one better than the city itself by winning taking home an award – the Hotel Property Award – at the industry conference, Hotelforum 2013. This award is targeted to a hotel property distinguishing itself from its competitors in terms of a harmonious concept of architecture, design and innovation. We can understand why such an award was bestowed on this hotel, which has taken the best bits of the building’s original 1851 design and architecture and combined them with touches of modern day style, colour and comfort.

The hotel is in a luxurious, ornate and historical building, with the kind of accessibility you’d hope for in 2013. There is step free access into and within the hotel and they have several accessible rooms. These rooms are larger and easier to move around, with lowered beds and wheel in showers complete with grab rails (there are also shower seats available upon request). They have a disabled toilet near the restaurant too.

The hotel is stylish, accessible and in an accessible city so we’ll give them a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks awaiting an official BBS audit.
