Listing Description

Update June 2016: M is most definitely accessible. There’s a lift down to the restaurant and bar and the flooring is completely smooth. The food is great (the Kangaroo tartare was different but the dried venison meat is superb) and the atmosphere is fabulous. Buzzy yet able to hear what my companion said. The wine is exceptional but not cheap. The bar was cool and the disabled loo is off to the rear. Fully equipped and we had a dance in there as the rock music was piped in -disturbing and fun! It may be too darkly lit if you’re partially sighted. However, a well deserved 3 BBS Ticks, for style, full access and a cool disabled loo. Going back just for the buzz and the wine!!

M in Victoria Street, SW1, is from restaurateur Michael Williams who used to be MD of Gaucho Group. It consists of a Grill dining room and RAW bar – we like the idea of healthy/clean food alongside steaks as it covers every need! Located in the modern Zig Zag Building everywhere should be accessible??

The Raw bar serves ‘RAW ingredients, cooked and served on small plates to savour or share’. These include tartares, sushi, sashimi, caviar and salads with prices between £9 & £12. The idea is healthy raw food in small quantities, as they say ‘Fast, Casual & Healthy’. The alternative is the Grill serving steak (and some fish and fowl) from around the world. This includes Argentinian rump fillet at £19 to Piedmontese, Italian Rib-Eye 300G, at £40.00, to  Wagyu Australian sirloin at £95 for 200g. The steak is expensive and cooked well according to the review in The Evening Standard and GQ says the steaks are ‘Tender, salty, smokey and huge.’ You choose your steak from a cabinet in the room.

There’s also a great and unusual wine selection from the M Wine Store, where you can try really expensive and rare wine by the glass – as they say in their video ‘its’s accessible luxury’. They do this via a Coravin system and have taste stations in the wine shop where you can just drink/taste wine if you prefer.

Having worked in Victoria there aren’t many places to go for a smart meal unless you leave Victoria St i.e. Cinnamon Club, in Great Smith St and Caxton Grill at St. James’s, so M is a welcome addition. It’s also open from 7am to midnight in case you need a healthy breakfast or late supper – something other than McDonald’s, for the workaholic in Victoria.

We rang to ask about access and everywhere is accessed via lift in the new Zig Zag building and there is a fully equipped disabled loo. We will be visiting soon but until then we give them an unaudited 2.5 BBSTicks. Maybe 3 if the food and ambience is as good as it appears.
