Hôtel Crillon Le Brave, in Provence, has been a classy hotel and spa for many years but what about accessibility for people with disabilities,

They describe a stay as a 5 Star experience with,

‘a marvellous labyrinth of 17th and 18th century buildings lined with Virginia creeper, a secret passage is revealed leading to a panoramic terrace overlooking the breath-taking Mont-Ventoux. A dozen old houses make up the hotel, giving it a special, private and exclusive charm’.

It took a bit of time and we found Accessibility information hidden away on the website, you can see it here.

They do say that all the common areas are accessible ‘apart from the pool, fitness centre and quiet corner terrace’. There are disabled toilets in the communal areas and the gastronomic and bistronomic restaurants are both accessible.

We also asked about their accessible rooms and they replied,

‘We would like to kindly inform you that we do have three disabled rooms at our hotel. However, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further details about our hotel as it not a classical one.’

That was email number 1. We needed to know which rooms on their website are accessible and if we could see photos and here was email number 2,

La Table du Ventoux Has a Beautiful View With Food to Match.

‘I would like to inform that our three disabled rooms re the following ones:

A Prestige room,

A Junior suite Deluxe Ventoux,

A Deluxe suite,

Kindly note that those rooms are subject to availability.

Kindly be advised that on those rooms, they will have a walk-in shower with grab rails and all our hotel is accessible for disabled person. However, our hotel is not the most convenient one to be transparent as it is not a typical/classical one as it is located into a village and all our rooms are spreading into nine independent houses. There is no main building with all the rooms and the facilities but it is all located onto the same area and the corridor of the hotel are the street of the village.

The streets are going up and down and they are quite narrow. Please kindly find attached a copy of the plan of the hotel.’

And what about the ambience, value for money (average room is 300€) etc. here are two external review ratings:

Trip Advisor rate it 4.5/5. All the reviews are effusive about the historical buildings and the quality of the food, in both La Table Du Ventoux and La Madeleine.

The Telegraph gives it 8/10 mainly because they found the service rude and they say that the ‘steep uneven path’ to the rooms and restaurants makes this inaccessible for disabled people. Rather a sweeping statement as some people can handle cobblestones and they may be an obstruction to others – it’s a disabled persons individual choice. All we need is good information. This was in 2022 and we see that there is a lift in the hotel which will lessen the need to navigate uneven pathways.

These facilities sound good considering the hotel is on a hill and very old. We’ve asked for images of the accessible rooms so watch this space!!
