Listing Description

Grims Grenka is a stylish, design hotel in Oslo that has been voted Norway’s coolest. However, as they have no disabled rooms we won’t cover the details of the hotel itself. What we can say is that the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop bar may be worth visiting instead.

Their restaurant, Madu, sounds quite interesting. The restaurant’s food has been well reviewed in Oslo and is all entirely raw. They say that they utilise “old cooking methods such as smoking, curing, pickling are mixed with newer ones, such as sweeping, halstring and carving” to modernise traditional Scandinavian cuisine.

There is a disabled toilet on the floor below the restaurant which can be reached by lift. The main entrance has a portable ramp to help get people inside. The restaurant is flat and there is ample space to move around in it. In fact, all communal areas in the hotel should be easy to access.

This should include the Q Lounge Rooftop Bar which is a great location. We love rooftop bars here at BBS and this one looks very trendy. One of few rooftop bars in Oslo, it has featured on several Best Rooftop Bars in Europe lists, including the Guardian’s and Fodors’.

We haven’t had a chance to visit Grims Grenka yet but from what we’ve heard the only disabled toilet is in the basement. Going from the roof bar on the top floor, to the toilet on the bottom floor might be a bit irritating. The Q Lounge is open from May til September. Also, some areas of the rooftop are separated by stairs but these are avoidable.

Overall, we give the Grims Grenka’s restaurant and bar a provisional 2 BBS Ticks. But bear in mind the hotel itself is not accessible as a place to stay.
