Listing Description

Update may 2017: As of May 2017 they have portable ramps available at both entrances and a lift to the restaurant. In the evening (when the shop is shut) there’s a doorman at the side entrance who will assist up the step and can provide a portable ramp. Unbelievably they still have no disabled toilet!!

The chef is now Claude Bosi ex of Hibiscus (2 Michelin Stars). If the food is anything like Hibiscus it will be well worth the £85 for 3 courses.

Entrance Has a Portable Ramp for 3 Steps. At Night There’s a Doorman at Side Entrance With Said Ramp
Bibendum, The Original Fine Dining Restaurant, is Back With Claude Bosi But No Disabled Toilet – Still!

Persistently only 2 BBS Ticks as no disabled loo.

………………………………………………………………………………………

I went to Bibendum (named after the Michelin man), a while ago when I walked with sticks so I’ve had to call about wheelchair access. It has always served good food and is above The Conran Shop in Fulham/Chelsea/knightsbridge i.e. it’s on the corners of each locality, in the area known as Brompton Cross.

It is in the beautiful Michelin House building which was the first British HQ for the Michelin Tyre Company in 1909. It was bought by Sir Terence Conran in 1985 and it’s one of the best and most stylish restaurants in the area. It has OK disabled access in that it has a lift but when the shop isn’t open there is a side entrance with a step to get in and no portable ramp. They also don’t have a disabled toilet that is accessible by wheelchair. It has grab rails but it’s not big enough for a wheelchair. As a result they get a lower rating and I will be getting in touch with them as it’s a bit backward for the original Conran Restaurant.

There is also a less formal Oyster Bar which I have reviewed separately.

Bibendum is stylish but only gets 2BBS Ticks due to a lack of facilities.
