Listing Description

Update July 2019: The Beaumont is no longer part of the Corbin & King group, as stated below, however it’s still a lovely hotel that’s completely accessible and is nominated for the 3rd year running as ‘Best Hotel’ at The Blue Badge Access Awards. The winners will be announced at our glamorous ceremony 7th Oct at The Landau Restaurant at The Langham, London, Tickets available here.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The Beaumont Hotel is like something out of a Poirot film, it’s a total indulgence in Art Deco hidden behind Oxford Street. Developed by Corbin and King, owners of Delaunay, The Wolseley (if you excuse the high step at the front), Brasserie Zedel and Colbert, that are all highly rated by BBS. As a group they pay attention to accessibility despite locations in old buildings. The Beaumont and it’s American Bar and Colony restaurant are similarly accessible. In a Listed Building, they won our 2016 BBS Award for ‘Best Accessible Venue in a Listed Building by Historic England’. This year they’re up for Best Accessible Hotel at the 2017 Awards on Oct. 4th.

As you approach the hotel you notice a Vintage Daimler in the forecourt which is available for guests to use and indulge in the 20s/30s experience. To the left of the Deco façade, there’s a three-storey high figure, squatting. This was commissioned by Turner Prize-winner Antony Gormley and it’s interior is an exclusive suite called ROOM. We had a look in and it’s houses a large bed with light from little holes in the ceiling – womb like and very peaceful but up 5/6 stairs so not accessible but interesting to see.

The Access into the building is flat and the reception well lit. It leads to the American Bar and Colony restaurant which are all accessible with an accessible toilet at the back of the bar.

Reception is Bright With Smooth Floors
The American/Jimmy’s Bar Serves Exemplary Cocktails – Look Out for the Nibbles – Such as Popcorn Chicken – So Good You Won’t Eat Your Dinner
The American Bar (Jimmy’s) Has Low Seating so Wheelchair Not out of Place

There is a preponderance of dark wood so not great if your eyesight is poor. However, the service, cocktails and food make up for a minor deficiency and acoustics are good even when crowded. I introduced a friend to the American Bar and it’s now his and my favourite bar, especially as it’s dedicated to a fictitious baseball player, Jimmy Beaumont. His memorabilia around the bar is perfect along with pictures of Hollywood greats on the walls. You expect F. Scott Fitzgerald or Gatsby to arrive at any moment. A great experience and the cocktails are exemplary served in Deco glasses with good old fashioned service.

Disabled Toilet Also Follows the Deco Theme
Plenty of Room & Grab Rails – Not a High Chair in Sight

We did examine their accessible room and you can see for the images below that it has a wood floor in the hall and then plush carpet (not too difficult to wheel over). Plenty of room and the bathroom is in-keeping with the Deco style. The shower seat is too low and we did tell them make an alteration. They are also adding more accessible rooms in the same style with beautiful accessible bathroom fittings by HEWI.

We loved The Beaumont, they have paid so much attention to detail in restoring the Listed Building and if you can’t afford to stay, visit the bar &/or restaurant for a taste of Deco glamour. They get the maximum 3 BBS Ticks.
