Listing Description

The Bastard Café was nominated by BBS reader, Edith, as Best European Venue at The BBS Awards. They didn’t win but here’s Edith’s review:

‘Quirky bar/cafe full of board and card games. We thought it was a no go as there’s stairs to get in, but staff were super nice and use the goods lift and there’s a disabled loo.’

Bastard Cafe is in Huset Building……
Flat Access to Goods Lift …….
Large Space for ‘Hygge’ & Can Get Crowded

They take a few reservations but generally not, so there may be a queue at busy times. They serve tea and beer as well as coffee along with ‘bar food’ and describe themselves as

‘a café for board games, card games, coffee and ‘hygge’ in Copenhagen.’

‘Hygge’ is the newly adopted word from the Danes to describe their lifestyle craze of a ‘feeling of comfort and contentment, as well as indulging in all the good things and people in your life’. Sounds right up our street and it’s good to see that this transfers to their accessibility even if it is via a goods lift!
