One of my favourite restaurants of the moment is The Shed in Notting Hill, sister restaurant to Rabbit in Kings Road and run by the same Gladwin brothers – a Chef, a Farmer & a Restauranteur. This was the first restaurant and is definitely ‘shabby chic’. They champion,

‘local and wild British seasonal produce with the ethos of what grows together, goes together. We use all things wild, foraged, and locally grown including sustainable livestock from the Gladwin’s own family farm…..’

Everything is designed to be small sharing plates but when I go my plate is all mine as the food is delicious. I particularly like the dessert of ‘Honeycomb crunchie, whipped mascarpone & Tarragon sugar at only £6. I also like the scallops, when they’re on the menu, the broccoli dish is good as well. Not being a meat eater I’m told the fallow deer they serve is especially tender. Each plate is c.£6-£9 each, so not expensive at all.

Unfortunately as it is a ‘shed’, there are no disabled toilets and half of the restaurant can only be accessed via stairs. However, there is an entrance down a side alley where they improvise with baking sheets to make a ramp over a single step – very shabby chic!! They’ve tried other ramps but none are short enough so top marks for improvisation……. The alley is very narrow and the turning circle is tight but with some pushing and shoving I got in. There’s plenty of room when you are inside and the floor is smooth wood. Lighting is good and it doesn’t get overly noisy when full. There’s a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very helpful, I love the ambience and the food.
