Those of you who know me realise I don’t expect to find much of ‘innovation’ at Naidex – the largest disability equipment show in the UK. Held every year at the NEC, Birmingham, the first innovation was found on the train – we tried out the BBS ‘Drink’ glass holder. It worked well with the coffee cup and attached to the train table with no problem…….so first innovation to us! I also tried it with a champagne glass at the German National Tourist Office’s reception. Again it worked well and no spills were encountered when I moved my chair.

Here’s another video of it

The second innovation also involved the German National Tourist Office. They launched an exciting programme of accessible activities called ‘Feeling Fearless’. They already have a ‘Barrier Free’ initiative but this highlights accessible activities such as White Water Rafting in Saxony, to Skiing in Thuringia and ‘Parcours’/Abseiling in Leck. We’ll be writing a separate blog on this as there’s plenty more to experience and it’s a welcome change for a tourist board to concentrate on not just where to stay but also what to do, of a more exhilarating nature!!

Lastly, for this addition we found a cool invention at Naidex called the Magic Knife. It’s easier to use than a normal knife

‘…..because of the holes. When you push the knife forward with very little downward pressure you push air into the food, so on hard food like swede
and butternut squash you don’t get a suction on the knife, therefore easing the effort you have to use’.

I tried it and found I could cut really easily with my limited dexterity. See the video but go slower at home, it’s really sharp……

Keep in touch as we’ll have 3 more innovations from Naidex in a few days…we want to keep you on your toes or should I say wheels??
