The Sports Bar & Grill, in the upper reaches of London Waterloo train station, is part of a chain of bars that pretty much do what they say on the tin. It’s an American style sports bar, where people can sit in front of the many plasma screens and watch ‘the game’ with a beer and food (burgers, wings etc). There’s a slightly ‘chainy’ vibe inside but considering that it’s a train station bar (not that that is necessarily a bad thing) it does manage to feel pleasant enough to be a destination in its own right, not just the only bar in the station.
Having said that, this Sports Bar & Grill’s main asset is probably still its location. It is a really convenient place for times when you find yourself waiting in Waterloo station without anything to do. Or it would be convenient if it was more accessible. One of our readers recently sent us their verdict on the accessibility, so we’ll hand over to them now to find out how it stacks up:
“Although the place has flat access much of the seating is either too high (bar stool type) or up steps. The only low seating on the flat is either just inside the door or stuck in a corner. The disabled toilet is small and cramped and the staff need to learn how to address those with disabilities.”
Oh dear, not so good then. Thanks to Kester for sending us those details – it’s a shame it was such a difficult venue to visit, but we always appreciate someone getting the word out.
We give the Sports Bar & Grill in Waterloo a provisional 1 BBS Tick. Not very accessible and not altogether that stylish either.
