Callooh Callay is a Shoreditch bar full of eclectic curios, mismatched furniture and a style of its own. A style which lies somewhere between eccentric and bonkers.

The bar’s name comes from the works of Lewis Carroll and this is a space inspired by surreal and fantastical literature – the most obvious example of this being the giant wardrobe which connects two of the main rooms. It’s a mad and intriguing mish mash to be in as you enjoy one of the cocktails from their award winning comic book cocktail menu, full of exciting treats, mixed together by some of London’s finest bar staff. The outstanding drinks and quirky atmosphere have seen Callooh Callay listed in the top 50 bars in the world as well as being included on the World’s Best Bars website.

The bar has an adapted toilet for less able guests and the entrance is step free. Some parts of the bar are inaccessible – most notably the upstairs bar which is a small pop up music venue – but there is certainly enough here to make it worth visiting.

UPDATE – having stopped by at Callooh Callay we’ve discovered that disabled visitors may struggle. We were told by the bouncers outside (in a surprisingly diplomatic and apologetic way) that there is no step free access and they didn’t seem to think that there is a disabled toilet inside either.

As a result, we’re knocking Callooh Callay down to 1 BBS Tick. It may be possible to access if you call ahead but if you arrive unannounced at a busy time you may be turned away!
