This week I’ve spent all my time waiting in for deliveries. Shopping on line supposedly saves time and effort but it’s becoming as bad as going out in the ‘Xmas Rush’ – at least you meet fellow human beings that way, instead of people with a call script or worse still an inanimate voice telling you your delivery has arrived; of course it hasn’t and that’s why you’re calling. I think it’s true, call centre staff treat their job as a sport (The Waiting Game) and race to see how quickly they can irritate a customer to the point of hanging up. Oh well that’s that off my chest and I can continue my wait for my last Xmas present – 2 pairs of socks that have taken nearly 10 days to arrive!

In between waiting I did manage to go out and visit the new Mark Hix place Hixter which they assured me was accessible. I arrived by cab at Devonshire Square in the City of London, home to a number of places we’ve reviewed in the past such as Anise & Cinnamon Kitchen . Unfortunately there’s no where to park and the square is inaccessible by car so you have to walk into the square & there’s cobbles! Once there I waited (again), for the lift operator to get me up to Hixter as it’s up a steep flight of steps. He arrived and someone else arrived but the lift wouldn’t work. After a conversation with the very apologetic restaurant manager, for the first time in my life I gave up and went home!
After that disappointment I was wary of going out again in the City but an old friend persuaded me to go with him to Harry’s Bar – There are 2 and this was the one in Ironmonger Lane. For a small place in the old part of the City, it was pleasantly very accessible with a fully equipped disabled loo (a tight squeeze but the staff were very helpful & got me in and out without too many 3 point turns). The food was good brasserie style and the atmosphere was lively without beiing too intrusive to our coverastion. All in all I’ll definitely go again for a relaxed, fun, after work drink/nibbles. They get a well desrved 2.5 BBS Ticks.
So that’s the last Wrap for 2013 unless I get bored on Xmas Day, have a Very Merry Xmas & see you in 2014!!
