Here’s a review from BBS staffer Lucy who’s at university in Cambridge at the moment. She’s been sending us some news and reviews from “the City of perspiring dreams”:
The Vaults is probably my favorite place to go but it has the worst disabled access I’ve seen up here….
They are a restaurant and a bar – they do 2-4-1 cocktails for most the evening, which is always good thing and the drinks are delicious! But only to be bought when you get a second one for free… student budgeting!
The Vaults could easily be missed with it being a single doorway along Trinity Street in Cambridge. I won’t tell you too much more as I think it’s pretty much impossible to get a wheelchair in here, although those on sticks would probably be able to manage it. There are roughly 15 steps down and if someone is coming up and you’re going down, you aren’t going to get past one another… This is why I doubt a wheelchair would make it in there.
I thought I saw a disabled toilet but it was a just a storage room at the back of the bar. Next time I’m there I’ll ask if there’s another way into the bar but in the meantime, I don’t think this is the place to go.
A shame to see a stylish bar slacking in access. We’ve seen that on their website they do say that the disabled access is “minimum”. We’ll give them a single BBS Tick so that everyone knows what to expect.
