This week’s Weds Wrap is coming all the way from my current location in sunny Ibiza. I’m over here researching stylish venues on the island at the moment. Yes, I know it’s a tough life but somebody has to do it.  This is not a holiday though, I can’t stress that enough – we’ve been going here, there and everywhere – it can be quite tiring. I can’t really reveal what we’ve found out so far because it would spoil the fun for our Ibiza article. Instead, I’ve managed to to send a message in a bottle over to Blighty with a truncated Weds Wrap, featuring what I got up to before I left the UK. Hopefully it will end up in the hands of our editor!

Before I went to Ibiza I managed to get out and about to audit a couple of venues for BBS. The first of these was Ziloufs on Islington’s Upper Street which we had featured before but not audited yet. It’s a very stylish cocktail bar which I had seen on the  list of the World’s Best Bars top 100 bars. I was expecting good things from Ziloufs based on the hype about their drinks and  a good chat we had had with them over the telephone which suggested their access was good too. I was not let down on either front.

I had one of their special cocktails and a side of crispy chilli cuttlefish with wasabi mayo and lime which was delicious. It was also generally very accessible inside and the only problem was that the disabled toilet is down a narrow corridor which wasn’t ideal. We gave Ziloufs a provisional 2.5 Ticks in the past and now I am happy to confirm that rating.

I also went to see the result of the refurbishment that’s been done at one of my locals, the Crown in St Margaret’s, on Thursday. They’ve done a good job with the makeover although they have certainly taken a long enough time over it. But I’d say the wait was probably worth it. We had dinner in a lovely high ceilinged dining room and the portions were just enormous. The garden at the back was fantastic too – it was big but also very secluded and calm when we were there. The pub was all accessible so we’re giving it 2.5 BBS Ticks.

As I’ve mentioned before, the BBS Awards took place last week, with me and a couple of trusty pals hotfooting our way around London handing out stickers and certificates of excellence to the best BBS Rated venues. Since then we’ve been hearing back from many of these venues, through our Twitter account, telling me how honoured they are. It’s been great to hear such positive things – a Blue Badge Style recommendation seems to be something that restaurants really appreciate being given. Hopefully this spur on some of  less accessible restaurants to up their game and try to gain our recommendation!

I’ve also been busy working on a short piece about BBS for Time Out. It’s really important to me that we get our message out there and I’m looking forward to appearing in such an influential outlet which has given us so much inspiration in the past. So it should be good – if you do see it, let us know what you think through Twitter or on our Facebook page (and while your there, don’t forget to ‘like’ us too – it’s a great way to keep on top of important info for less able bodied people).

Have a good week and I look forward to bringing you the details of everything we find out about over here in Ibiza. It’s been a lot of fun but we’ve also been doing as much research as we can!

Fiona will be back in England with a new Weds Wrap next week when her holiday in Ibiza is over.
