Well it’s very quiet at this time of year in London i.e. I’ve got no-one to go out with. I had an abortive lunch at Bocca Di Lupo, Piccadilly which I really want to go to as it’s had great reviews and is THE place to go at the moment. Lieutenant No.1 went there and said the food was amazing especially the fried artichoke. The Epicure Lieutenant also went and raved about it. It’s a potential 3 BBS Ticks as they have disabled facilities as well. I’m going tomorrow and will confirm their rating once the facilities are inspected.
For anyone who doesn’t know we have a rating system of BBS Ticks with a maximum of 3 being awarded and there are very few of them. We rate on accessibility, facilities and most importantly of all, on style (more details on the system can be found here). If a venue isn’t on the list it doesn’t have style! So no Macdonalds here I’m afraid. This translates to giving an ‘at a glance’ view of trendy places to go to, near your location, and identifies potential obstacles so that you can make up your own mind whether to visit or not. This is all found on our Mobile App (Download here for iPhone & iPad and here for Android).
Despite the lack of friends I inveigled my nephew to lunch and we found another 3 BBS Tick’er. The Dysart Arms in Richmond, Surrey. This used to be a ‘mock Tudor’ pub on the Petersham road just outside of Richmond. It’ still mock Tudor but the interior is now a restaurant with fabulous food as well as a Beckstein piano (my nephew wasn’t allowed to play even though he’s a Royal Academy Musician). It also has a wonderful garden and the disabled facilities are fabulous – for once you can go to the Ladies or Gents without being segregated into a conspicuous ‘special’ disabled toilet i.e. the disabled toilets are cubicles within the Ladies & Gents. The lunch we had was brilliant especially my scallops and my nephew’s rabbit. The Chef kenneth Culhane is a Roux Scholar and this explains the excellent cooking but it had a twist; there was a touch of Eastern influence which accompanied rather than overwhelmed the fresh produce. They get a brilliant 3 BBS Ticks. We’re booking up for Xmas!
We also entered a competition Pitch 2013 in our never ending search for funding. Please vote for us &/or help us to grow into the goto Vogue/Michelin Guide for anything to do with enjoying yourself whatever the disability. We call it ‘Hedonism Without Handicap’. If anyone can think of a better phrase please get in touch.
We promised a trendy view of Walking Frames & Rollators. Our designer has come up with a few ideas and these should be available to view by the weekend. In the meantime we’ve had an extensive search and can only find these few. Looks like we’re going to have to make our own brand. So when the designs go up please vote on which you prefer.
The BBS Interest/Action Panel hasn’t been forgotten we’re just putting together an initial questionnaire. So we’ll be in touch soon and if anyone else wants to join please contact us at info@bluebadgestyle.com .We need all ages, any disability and carers/friends of people who are disabled. The idea is we put the views of people who are disabled and want to main their lifestyle, forward to retailers, government etc.
That’s all for this week, lets hope I get some more friends by then and don’t forget to vote for us at Pitch 2013 .
