I like all the music my parents liked when they were my age; I’m about 25/30 years (or more) behind most of friends when it comes to my musical taste…  So I don’t tend to get my hopes up about seeing my favourite bands/artists as most of them have split up or died, as is the case with Joe Strummer and Marc Bolan

I’ve grown up listening to The Stranglers and as I got older I developed a better appreciation for their music than I had when I was 5… They became a band that I really wanted to see live!

I do my best to try and see all the old bands I like and I’ve managed to see both Morrissey and Johnny Marr but separately of course! (My hope of seeing The Smiths reform is practically none existent these days, I hate to say!) I’m also lucky enough to have seen the The Cure twice!

My friends mentioned before Christmas they were going to The Roundhouse to see The Stranglers but me being me, I didn’t start looking to buy a ticket until February and of course I couldn’t get one – you can imagine I was upset! However a friend had to pull out at the last minute and she gave me her ticket – I was over the moon!

Based on my previous experiences of seeing bands it gets a bit rowdy, so me and my friend were prepared for this when we went to see The Stranglers… But we obviously forgot that we were probably going to be the youngest people there, so when it started there was more head bobbing and foot tapping than there were mosh pits!!

The Stranglers were great live, I really enjoyed the music and there was a great atmosphere (even if it wasn’t what I’d imagined). They did all my favourites, Golden Brown, Peaches, Tank, Nice N Sleazy, Duchess – all of that! Was a really good night, I only wish I saw them back in the day when the crowd would have been jumping around and not doing a very poor attempt of head banging…

Wish I’d seen them when they looked more like this!

I’m not in a wheelchair myself but since working at Blue Badge Style I find myself checking out the width of doors, looking for steps, ramps, and lifts and of course disabled toilets, everywhere I go… I’ve even got a few of my friends at it!!

We have reviewed the Roundhouse and we gave them 2.5 BBS Ticks which I think are well deserved now I’ve been there!! They have a ramp at the front, wide doors, lifts and I saw a couple of disabled toilets inside the stage area and outside! It’s all very spacious and flat in the bar and getting outside to the terrace! When we were in the main stage I did look up at the gallery and saw several wheelchair users sat up there – so it is definitely worthy of the BBS Ticks!
