Being in a wheelchair can mean there are restrictions on the clothes you choose to wear. If you’re wearing a dress, you have to consider how floaty it is – in case it gets stuck in the wheels – if it’s too short or long and whether its too tight and uncomfortable. And that’s just to name only a few issues that can arise. But, as Deborah from Accessing Style said in the post she did for Blue Badge Style, to look stylish in a wheelchair, you should “focus on your hair, face, and shoulders.” With hair and make-up there are so many different things you can do that won’t get in the way of a wheelchair.

So I’ve looked at the make-up and hairstyles that have been on the catwalk this season for both men and women. Here they are!

Short Hair

Anne Hathaway’s pixie cut has become the more popular short hair to have at the moment and Charlize Theron also has a similar cut! It’s relatively easy to maintain but isn’t just a ‘get up and go’ hair style – short hair needs just as much attention as long hair in my experience!

Other celebrities who have gone for the short look are Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan. What you can do when it comes to styling it depends on how short you go; Pink has always had quite short hair but she keeps it longer on top and often puts it into a quiff. Emili Sandé does this too – it is a great look on both of them!

Long Hair

Long hair has probably featured more on the catwalk recently with  Marc Jacobs and Dolce and Gabbana putting colourful, patterned scarves around it. Scarves are a good way of keeping your hair out the way in the heat, whether you’re on holiday or not (that is if the sun actually comes out in England this year!)

Dolce and Gabbana had more blues and greens and with a bow tied at the back of the head and not just wrapped around like the image of a Marc Jacobs model below.

Or if you want your hair down, Stella McCartney’s models had wavy hair with a centre parting, keeping it casual and natural but still looking good. Which is always important!

This also appeared on the models with mid-length hair. Another casual look on the catwalk was a low set ponytail that was then looped under, worn by Chloe models, for those days when it needs to be up and still be stylish! Paul Smith also did ‘textured buns’, or messy buns to most people, which are an easy way to keep up with trends – can’t really go wrong!

The Bob

The beauty of having mid-length hair is that it suits people with round faces or thin, it looks good with and without a fringe, it can be long enough to tie back if you need it out your face and bobs tend to suit women of all ages and perhaps most importantly, they always look stylish! Remember when Victoria Beckham had ‘The Pob’ – I think everyone got one of those! Bit outdated by now but lots of celebrities are still wearing the bob, including: Cameron Diaz, Anna WintourKaty Perry, Kim Cattrall, January Jones, Emily Blunt and Michelle Obama!

With a fringe!

There are so many different ways to have a bob! You could have an A-line bob like Keira Knightly and Katy Perry or there’s the classic bob worn by Anna Wintour – I wonder if she has ever had different hair?!  Kim Cattrall has a long bob that is loosely curled, which is very stylish look on anyone! Perfect for special occasions; weddings, parties, dinners!

Brave to go blue! But A-line cut is flattering!

Now the face…

Make-up! Sometimes make-up comes down to personal preference, you know what looks good on you and you stick to it but if you fancy a change here’s what was on the spring/summer 2013 catwalks!

We’ll start with the lips: Dolce and Gabbana had very neutral make up with striking red lips that means dark eyes aren’t necessary! Red lips are always a winner!

As for the eye make-up, greens and blue were popular. Be sure not to have bright green eyeliner and red lips – as current as the colour choice is I don’t that they are such a good look when worn together…

Armani and Cavalli went for dark and full eyeliner as opposed to the shock of colour seen on the Stella McCartney and Dior runways. Thick eyebrows were also a popular trend on the Marc Jacobs catwalk.

Men’s Hair!

The most popular look on the men’s runway seemed to be a modern twist of the 1920s slicked, side parting; it’s got a rockabilly feel about it! Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, David Beckham are wearing their hair like this at the moment and since it’s an old look we can include James Dean, John Travolta, Elvis Presley in that list!

Another trendy style is disconnected hair with short sides and back, clean and neat edges, keeping it longer on top and a bit of pomade to give it the slicked look – very Boardwalk Empire!

The other take on this look was almost identical but not slicked. Much more ‘bed head’ style, keeping the top of the hair textured/scruffy, giving it plenty of volume! This look works on younger and older men, with older men keeping it a bit shorter and more ‘slicked’ on top but it’s a good look for anyone!

Messy, disconnected look!

Fancy keeping it long? Paul Smith’s models had mid-length messy hair. Whereas Kolor went for the long and parted look – quite a jump from short and slicked but a good look nonetheless! An even bigger jump from the long haired look was seen on the Armani runway, where a ‘chic shaved’ hairstyle was worn on some of the models!

Could it be any shorter?!
