Star Wars Jedi Training School is the latest craze in keeping fit and it is catching a lot of attention stateside.
The sessions consist of a couple of guys dressed up as Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi standing at the front of the class, taking fellow Star Wars enthusiasts through their paces. After a quick safety demonstration on the right way and the wrong way to handle a plastic lightsaber the pupils are ready to go.
Alain Block, who is one of the instructors, says “When a person gets their lightsaber, suddenly you’re part of this other group of people that are a little more in touch with the secrets of the universe, I don’t know.” Neither do we Alain. Neither do we.
The classes are taught how to wield a lightsaber efficiently and to become more like their childhood hero – Luke Skywalker. More advanced pupils seem to be allowed to wear their own Star Wars fancy dress exercise kit. There’s even a bit of meditation at the end to warn off the dark side of the force.
By the end of the session the apprentices have become true jedi masters.
