The Aumbry in Prestwich, Manchester is run by Head Chef & Owner Mary-Ellen McTague and is representing the North West in the new series of Great British Menu! This one is celebrating 25 years of Comic Relief and her starter was a bath of baked beans with an edible rubber duck. Looked funny/weird but the chefs thought the taste was great! She is Heston Blumenthal trained so I thought this was worth an entry. We checked and there is a step into the restaurant but there is level access at the back where a car can ‘drop off’. There is also a full disabled toilet.

It looks like the front room of a Victorian terraced house and the food, from a ‘limited menu’ is ‘Blumenthal’ influenced in a good way. The Guardian wrote:

“they like to play with their food. Not outrageously, but enough to raise a smile…………. tiny pellets of fleshy tongue – the lamb slices are shaped like a tongue.”

Sounds really interesting and tasty so will definitely be giving them a try. I also like the homely style therefore they get a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks.
