Sygn is a very trendy and popular bar/restaurant in Edinburgh. For the record, it’s pronounced ‘sign’.

Sygn promise that visitors can “expect a five star experience, whether you’re in for a quick bite, a three course meal or a debauched party with friends.”

World’s Best Bars says: “we like the laid-back, unpretentious feel during the week, when you should catch the song book of the resident piano singer, and sample a selection of fine Scotches.”

We haven’t audited the bar yet but when we called they told us that there are some accessibility issues. They don’t have a disabled toilet and, if you wanted to take on the non-disabled toilet they do have, there are stairs down to it.

Sygn is located on Charlotte Street which is cobbled so may not be easy in a wheelchair. There is one step to get into the building but inside the bar space is flat.

Although there are access problems they were very helpful on the phone and this tends to mean that they would be helpful when you get there. It might be the sort of place to go for a drink or two but you probably couldn’t stay for a long time because there’s no disabled toilet.

Because the facilities aren’t great and the access is tough we’re going to give Sygn a provisional 1.5 BBS Ticks. They have great style and a good attitude.
