Red Letter Days specialise in experiences that are in themselves gifts. With Christmas inching closer we thought it might be interesting to find out which Red Letter Days are suitable for the less able.

They offer a wide variety of gifts. As stated on their website “experiences range from those that make everyday life a little bit more special, like a few hours of being pampered at a luxury spa, to experiences that are genuinely once in a lifetime”.

If you want something stylish they offer lots of suitable experiences and places to go. You can go to spas, gourmet restaurants, cocktail making classes and even on stadium tours of Old Trafford (which BBS founder, Fiona, will tell you is very stylish & the home of real football). These outings and day trips are worth looking at, especially if you’re stuck for ideas on what to get someone for Christmas. There are loads of different options to browse, but we want to focus on the more adventurous, once in a lifetime experiences on offer to the ‘less able’.

We got in touch with Red Letter Days to find out which of their ‘adventure’ experiences would be accessible. We investigated activities that might on the surface be considered out of reach but are actually achievable. They came back to us with a couple of ideas:

Indoor Skydiving – A good substitute for the real thing and much cheaper, Red Letter Days now offer the opportunity to experience the feeling of skydiving without having to go up in a plane. In a 120mph wind tunnel you get to experience the sensation of being in free fall for two periods of 60 seconds. Which may not sound like much, but it’s twice as long as a normal 10,000 foot sky dive. It’s basically, like flying for a bit!

It normally costs £99 but it is on a half price offer right now. You can do it at their centres in Milton Keynes or Manchester.

Flight Simulator – You can experience what it feels like to fly a Boeing 737. You take full control of the virtual plane including practising taking off and landing. This is an opportunity you probably wouldn’t get during your first time flying unless you had a serious daredevil of an instructor!

The flight simulator is situated in Horsham, West Sussex. It costs £99 for a 30 minute experience and £169 for an hour.

We hope that these ideas can be good presents for the more adventurous, less able. But we would suggest that if you are interested in buying either of these experiences that you call in advance to check everything will be OK on the day.

We’re hoping to hear from Red Letter Days in the not too distant future with some more ideas of adventurous experiences for the less able. But, for now, we think that these are pretty exciting. Thanks to Red Letter Days for being so helpful (and remember they also have less adventurous but more stylish gift ideas)!

My son is in a wheelchair ,his mental ability is of the age of 2years . He will be 21 in October. He can walk with assistance. I just wondered if you had anything suitable for him, as presents are hard to think of with his limited understanding. Thankyou.

Hi, I’m sorry but we don’t provide the ‘days’ but if you can tell me what he’s interested in we’ll try and find something.

My grandson is 16. He is able to walk but does have mobility restrictions. And speech is poor. He would love to ride in a red sports car with a spoiler! He is able to get in and out off cars and listens well and is well behaved. His mental ability is mixed
He is sociable and gets on well with others. Im not sure if you would accept him as an able bodied customer.
