If you read my comments on restaurants etc. you can see I’m frustrated by the lack of facilities and less able toilets in many places. However this comment from the disability charity Scope put it into perspective for me – there is always someone worse off than you!

“Hi can you explain your version of a disabled toilet please? Is it a larger room with handles to transfer onto the toilet?

We are a Scope children’s home who are always looking for accessible places to visit but we need better disabled facility’s than the general publics view of a disabled toilet- we need a bench with a hoist – a shower room with a bench or shower chair and beds with bedsides and a hoist- or room to use a hoist so we can bring our own – these places do exist but are so hard to find- if you find any then please place them on here.  I really hope that as our youngsters grow into adults, the way access is designed and thought about, will naturally include them also.”                     Emma Fergus, Scope.

If anyone out there comes across such facilities in a restaurant, hotel or bar do let us know and we will add them to the site.

    hi there,

Interesting reading your website about accessible wc’s – or the lack of them! I’m an occ therapist during the day and when i’m out and about socially i can’t help doing my own little ‘access audit’ whilst sat on the loo in a bar! assessing how good or not facilities are and how they look!

Don’t know if you’ve seen the following campaign – http://www.changing-places.org/

This makes interesting reading, you could say there’s alot more to be done and making accessiblity look cool and trendy but fundamentally design should be useable and inclusive if nothing else and its clear that there’s a lot more that needs to be done. Inclusive design is still not seen as ‘sexy’ – and why shouldn’t it be?!

Best Wishes with your work and I will be downloading your app shortly !
