The Dolder Grand is a multi-award winning 5-star hotel in the outskirts of Zurich. It overlooks the city on one side and the Swiss countryside on the other.
It is a member of Design Hotels which describes it as ‘a historic landmark and a testament to contemporary architecture’. It is based around a 19th century building with two new wings added by world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster. The style of the hotel mixes the old with the new. Some aspects are very traditional; other’s are totally modern. It is also on the website of Leading Hotels Of The World.
The Dolder Grand is very much a luxury hotel. It has a spa which covers 4,000 square metres and two restaurants one which is two Michelin starred and the other is on a terrace overlooking Zurich and the Alps.
The hotel has disabled rooms equipped with wet room, walk in showers, suitable for wheelchair users. Due to the fact that the hotel is built on a hill there are quite a lot of stairs so some areas, such as the bar, may be inaccessible for the less able without aid. However, the staff are very helpful and try to work around these problems for disabled guests.
The Dolder Grand is a really luxury, exclusive hotel with good facilities. Because they seem to have a helpful attitude towards the small accessibility problems they have we’re going to give them a provisional maximum 3 BBS Ticks!
