My good friend Charlie Allen is a menswear designer but knows that sitting in a wheelchair requires a different type of styling and tailoring. Comfort is important as well as accommodating for the fact that you may have a different body shape to that of a standard ‘off the peg’ piece of clothing. Fabric and the amount of it is also key, as you don’t want to be swamped in too much but you still need room to move.

There are two womenswear sites I know of and they are Wheelie Chix and Xeni. However, I still buy high street or designer and get Charlie to alter for me. In fact most good  tailors know how to fit for any shape or size. Walking with sticks also required alterations as one shoulder was higher than the other and a well positioned shoulder pad made my back look straighter and more balanced. Cloth is also important and I find silk, a wool mix or most natural fibres are best but a light Viscose or some Elastene in the mix also works. My favourite is any cloth by Armani!!
