American Lieutenant’s report on access and facilities available at the Hilton Hotel in Cobham, Surrey.

The Hilton Hotel at Cobham, Surrey has four disabled rooms all located on the ground floor. I only viewed one of the rooms which I thought was very well equipped. It had twin beds with plenty of room for manoeuvring a wheelchair although they did not have a bed rail to facilitate a transfer from wheelchair to bed. I mentioned this point to the manager and I was told that they would look into purchasing one. The en-suite was well equipped with a floor level spacious shower containing grab rails, a pull down seat, sliding rail shower head and emergency pull chord. There were pull down grab rails by the toilet plus another emergency pull chord. Good sized sink with a grab rail next to it. The little entrance hallway to the room was tiled which I thought was a good idea.

I also checked out the swimming pool and spa. These are totally accessible via a wheelchair lift down to the pool area. The only problem is that they do not have a lift from the side of the pool into the pool. It seems a shame that they have gone to a lot of expense to provide disabled access in this area which includes a large WC/Changing Room and not provided a lift to get into the pool.

The common areas, restaurant and bar etc., all have ramps and lifts so no problems there.

I found all the staff very helpful, polite and accommodating.

Good to see they’re thinking of us!! A provisional 2BBS Ticks- Editor.
