On my travels in Shoreditch I asked my friends at the menswear shop Present where to have lunch. They suggested Rochelle Canteen at Arnold Circus, just of Shoreditch High Street. This restaurant is extremely hard to find even using Google maps, it’s in an old school building behind a wall which has one steel door – this is the entrance. You then enter a grass covered space with what looks like a temporary shed-like building – This is the restaurant Rochelle Canteen. A ledge to get in and a bit cramped on space for a wheelchair but they were very accommodating and the table height was just right and no legs getting in the way .
It’s BYO but as I was abstaining from alcohol that day and Lieutenant No.1 doesn’t drink, we stuck to the water and elder-flower cordial. The food and the surroundings are simple but the taste of good quality ingredients was a change. Great lunch and felt very healthy afterwards. It was full and again I don’t know how but Japanese tourists had found it!
No toilets disabled or not, which I don’t mind as at least there’s equality in that.
Rochelle Canteen gets 2 BBS Ticks as great food and v. stylish & trendy in it’s simplicity. Would be 3 but no loos to rate.
