Listing Description

I have to admit I have not been to any of the Hix Restaurants but I did eat Mark Hixs’ food at The Ivy and Le Caprice many years ago and very good it was. However, I wasn’t even aware of him as a chef until I saw  The Great British Menu 2007 on BBC2, where his rabbit and crayfish Stargazy Pie won the main course and it looked delicious. So when I saw his new restaurant in Belgravia I thought I should do some research and found he had a number or restaurants.

I will visit all of them eventually and I am going to the Tramshed first and then Hix in Soho as they both look really interesting. The Tramshed has a Damien Hirst artwork and is on street level. It also has a bar with snacks and I always like an option of snacks or a meal. Hix in Soho has ‘mobiles & neons’ from various artists and a bar downstairs, which I assume is inaccessible; I’m still going though!!

I have contacted the group regarding access and disabled toilets in their restaurants and have given them provisional BBS Ratings based on their responses to a questionnaire. Here they are:

Hix Oyster & Chop House in the City – has a ramp for access but no disabled toilet. 1.5 BBS Ticks

Hix Oyster & Fish House, Dorset – has a small ramp and a disabled toilet. 2.5 BBS Ticks

Hix in Soho & Marks Bar – the restaurant is on street level and there is a disabled toilet on this level. The bar is downstairs. 2.5 BBS Ticks

Hix Selfridges , London – Is not really accessible as it’s up some stairs in the main hall of Selfridges. There are disabled toilets throughout the store but none associated with Hix. Nevertheless it’s a stylish eaterie within Selfridges. 1.5 BBS Ticks

Hix Belgravia – is in The Thompson Belgraves hotel and has a ramp for access and a disabled toilet accessed via a lift. 2.5 BBS Ticks

Tramshed Shoreditch – is on street level and has a disabled toilet on this level. 3 BBS Ticks
