Update Feb 2021 Pastis have update their accessibility as follows as required by French Law………More progressive than UK Law as they don’t exclude old buildings!??

We made all the access alterations required throughout the hotel by the French program except for one. We have not extended the handrails on staircases to protrude onto the landings. A. Because we have no more funds available and B. They will cause more of a hazard to staff and guests due to the spiral nature of our staircase.
We were not required to install a lift or hoist for the swimming pool so unfortunately access is still limited.
We have only 10 rooms. Room 6 has been refurbished to accommodate wheelchair access. It is on the ground floor. No steps – no stairs. Access is by way of a gentle sloping pathway. All doors are wide enough for wheelchairs and the bathroom has been remodelled to include a drive-in shower. Low bath and drive under sink.

All doors in the common parts of the hotel have been widened or repositioned to suite. We have new entry phone systems with cameras and screen in reception. BUT we still go to the gates to greet all guests personally on arrival.
We have also opened a restaurant in the garden. This operates from May until November usually…  But it will depend on when restaurants are allowed to re-open.
PASTIS KITCHEN has been popular with wheelchair users and families with prams and pushchairs. Access is via the main gate which is left open during service hours. The tables are well spaced both for social distancing and for wheelchair access.
The handicap access WC is in the hotel lobby … no obstacles, no steps or stairs.
And our biggest asset is still that our staff are really helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make everybody feel at home.
Pastis gets 2.5 BBBS Ticks for Accessibility as per French Law

Update 2017: The Pastis sent us this update in late 2016

“I have to stress that we did conform to French law when we opened the hotel in 2005 but we do not conform to the New laws as yet. …We are planning to  do so over the next two years before time runs out. Nevertheless there are still lots of people that could enjoy the facilities we do have.”

If anyone’s been let us know your experience as it sounds like they’re going to improve accessibility??

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

2016: A friend suggested we review this pretty boutique hotel and on looking at their website it was difficult to see how accessible it may be. French Law changed in Jan 2015 so that ..

‘accessibility for disabled people, regardless of their category of disability (physical, visual, [auditive] or mental), to establishments receiving the public or places open to the public will become mandatory before the 1st of January 2015. Accessibility relates to the buildings and their facilities.’

However, as in the UK, there are exemptions based on the age of a building and full accessibility will still be years away. Hotel Pastis is not fully accessible but they have shown willing. Here’s what they say about their accessibility:

‘Our room does not comply to the new rules as yet. Pastis Hotel is very small with only ten rooms. Our staff are very friendly and helpful. We recommend that people talk to us either by e-mail or phone so that we can explain exactly what we have or have not. Our hotel is suitable for some and not for others.

Pastis Hotel has one room which complies with French regulations for wheelchair access ( This is Room No 6.) But we would like to point out that in France, facilities for people with special needs are quite modest in comparison with some other countries. To avoid any disappointment or misunderstanding, here are some photographs and notes for your information.

Small Dining Area With Smooth Flat floors
Bedroom Furniture Can Be Moved For Access
Bar Looks Inviting – We’re Sure They’ll Bring Drinks to You

Room 6 is on the ground floor, poolside adjacent to the bar and breakfast terrace. You can can easily maneuver from the street or private car park to your room, the pool and all main areas of the hotel. The room has ample space and the bed can be a double ( 180 x 200 cm) or two singles (90 x 200cm).

The ensuite bathroom has double sinks, bath with marble surround and integral shower and toilet. All are at the right height for ease and comfort and have grab handles for safety. Please note: There is no “drive-in “ shower or separate shower cubicle.’

Basins At Good Height With Leg Room
Bath Is OK If You Get help or Can Stand Un-Aided
Low Bath Makes Getting In Easier. Not Sure Grab Rail is Long Enough or In Good Position

With regard to the common areas there is flat access into and around the hotel. The floor coverings are stone and oak parquet and there’s enough space for wheelchairs. There is a disabled toilet near reception.

As a result we give Pastis Hotel 2 BBS Ticks, plenty of style and a good attempt for accessibility.
