UPDATE July 2022: One Aldwych, Lobby Bar one of my favourite places has had a refurbishment so we took a look to see how it changed……

We had drinks in the Lobby Bar which is now less open and populated with cosier tables & chairs. Drinks were lovely if a bit more expensive and service was friendly. The new decor made the acoustics much easier in the huge, ex-banking hall. The entrance has a couple of steps and there’s a ramp to the right of the door. It’s much gentler than the original which took some effort to negotiate.

Still HAs The Central flower Display …It was Wimbledon Week
Disabled Toilet is Still on Lower Ground
Grab Rails Retractable & on Wall Vertical & Horizontal. Not Sure the Colour Difference is Enough For Partially Sighted. Interesting Newspaper Wallpaper??

We waiting to see the refurbed rooms and they’ve said…

‘the Hotel has two accessible Superior bedrooms with wide doors, walk-in rainforest showers, a variety of grab rails and emergency pull cords to provide our guest with the highest level of comfort during their stay. We also offer Accessible public bathrooms with emergency alarm pull cords as well as lifts to all floors.’

They still get 3 BBS Ticks for the Lobby Bar.

………………………………………………………………………..

Sorry to all my ‘Fans?!?’ I haven’t posted anything lately as Xmas has got in the way. However, I have been out and about so expect a rush of activity.

One of the best places I’ve been to is the Lobby Bar atNo 1 Aldwych on the edge of Covent garden – sorry no pics as they  haven’t sent me any.The ramp in is a little steep but the doorman is very helpful. The Bar is extremely spacious so there’s plenty of room for wheelchairs and the floor is smooth for stick users. The decor and feel of the place is fashionable and welcoming. There is a real mix of people from business types to young trendy arty folk. I have to mention the flower arrangements as they are always spectacular and the current Xmas decorations don’t disappoint – you can tell I like this bar a lot.

Bar at One Aldwych
Fantastic centre display – looks like gingerbread this year??
valentine's
One aldwych always good for a romantic afternoon tea, champagne or cocktail.

As if that’s not enough, the cocktails are great and the bar snacks are delicious and inventive – I can recommend any Champagne cocktail and my Niece loves the Apple Martinis! The mini  Beef Wellington and the Goujons of Pollock with chips are all very tasty. I also have the Crudites to make up for all the gluttony. A new addition is the Afternoon Tea which looks lovely but I have yet to give it a try.

The final thing that makes this place special is the disabled toilet. Although It’s one floor down in the lift, the ease of access means I don’t need a helper to get there. Everything is right – the bars are in the right place, it has lovely soap and towels, it’s always clean and the mirror can be seen in a wheelchair and is very ‘forgiving’!

I’ve been a regular visitor here for many years and I can always be sure of a good time, full marks from me!
