Update on Champagne & Fromage , a further visit discovered that the disabled toilet was another ‘Quasi Khasi’ i.e. just about get a wheelchair in but no grab rails so they are now downgraded to 2 BBSTicks. Shame.

What a week I went to Charing X hospital without an escort and managed the lifts on my own. As a reward I went to review Champagne & Fromage, in Covent Garden with an old friend, where they claim to bring ‘rustic fare and fizz to London, served the French way’. They do and it’s now a favourite of mine as the champagne was lovely and the charcuterie immense (I took a doggy bag for my cab driver). I’m glad I met no dogs that day as I stored it in my bag on the back of my wheelchair. There’s not a lot of room (in Champagne & Fromage and my wheelchair bag for that matter) but it’s accessible despite a small lip at the door and there’s a disabled toilet but I couldn’t see where it could be??. Champagne & Fromage get 2.5 BBS Ticks.
Following my lunch I had a meeting at the May Fair Bar at the Mayfair Hotel which I didn’t realise is another champagne bar. Really easy to get into and a lovely smooth floor, add to that the extremely helpful staff and it’s probably another favourite (although the disabled toilets are on the 1st floor via the lifts and through another set of doors – complicated). According to the very friendly Concierge I met, the May Fair Bar is very lively at night being near Piccadilly and Berkeley Square. The May Fair Bar gets 2 BBS Ticks.
He also recommended Novikov down the road as a good restaurant but the Guardian’s Jay Rayner said –
‘it’s massive, expensive and the food is shocking. But what’s truly surprising about Novikov is that it’s also full’. Maybe I’ll try the bar first??!
However it does have both a Pan Asian and Italian restaurant and is owned by Moscow restauranteur Arkady Novikov, and as the Guardian says ‘Every time he opens a restaurant it instantly becomes the place to go, the road outside blocked with luxury cars,’……My kind of guy then. They have a disabled toilet in the Italian restaurant and the access is fine, apparently.
Nothing much more to report as I spent the whole weekend watching tennis and going to Amanda the Commanda’s birthday bash. So well done Amanda for a great party and well done Andy Murray for giving us all something to celebrate.
