Update Feb 2020: After many requests please note that the address for UK supply of The Alinker is Karen Nicholls at uk@thealinker.com . Pyxis no longer supply.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Alinker, a new style mobility device from Canada was previously reviewed in 2017 . They now have a UK distributor Pyxis (no longer in business, here’s the new UK distributor) so here’s an update on how it works and where to get one:
The Alinker is a brightly-coloured, three-wheeled walking aid that helps the user move around easily and independently. It’s been designed to be radically different to other walking aids with an aim to provide something functional, physically enriching and stylish for anyone that wants to use one. At the time, they were only available in Canada and the US, but now they’ve hit the UK.
The key features of Alinker are:
- Self-propelled – the bike is pushed along by the user making a walking/running action while they’re sat on the saddle
- A smooth and easy ride – the wheels turn easily and the unique shape of the frame makes the bike very stable
- Foldable – there’s an easy-to-use catch in the middle of the frame which lets the bike fold down, the saddle can be removed and the wheels pop off easily so that it can fit into the boot of a car
- For indoor and outdoor use – whether you’re quietly wandering through an art gallery or running down a tree-lined path, the Alinker keeps you active at your own speed
- Fun, interesting and a conversation starter – people who are already using the Alinker in the UK often say how many people will come up to them and ask them about it, not even realising that it’s their mobility aid
More and more people with mobility issues are using the Alinker to get around shops, museums and art galleries; places that they may have struggled to walk around unaided. As well as using it for exercise, for strength and conditioning, to keep fit and have a healthy lifestyle.
“A recent visit to Lichfield was an amazing experience as this was the first time that I’d been able to walk around somewhere and alongside someone. My stability and coordination improves upon each occasion.” Nick B: ambulatory wheelchair user
When we first spotted the Alinker it was difficult to get hold of in the UK. The Alinker Ltd are based in Canada so that meant big charges for international shipping. But as of June this year Alinkers have been available for the first time in the UK from online retailer Pyxis but they are no longer in business so here’s the new UK retailer based in eastbourne
An Alinker costs £1,250 without VAT for people with qualifying conditions and comes with a 30-day no-obligation trial.
You can order online from Pyxis and have your bike delivered straight to your door within 3-5 days when they’re in stock.
Don’t forget to buy our DRINK glass/cup holder for hands free socialising with your Alinker !!!!!!!!!
No gears so stuffed on hills!
£1250! There must be some profit margin! Couldn’t you throw in the glass for free?
Hi Tom
We don’t sell the Alinker. This sold direct from their site in Canada. If we did we’d throw in the glass holder. Sales of the Glass Holder are used to support the running of Blue Badge Style!
Why is pyxisonline listed as the web address for U.K. sales for the Alinker and the link doesn’t work?
Who IS or WHERE IS the correct contact details for the U.K. DISTRIBUTOR for the Alinker walking bike.
Hi as per the previous comment these are now sold direct from Canada. We know Pyxis is no longer trading. We don’t believe there’s a distributor in the uK
What are the legal regulations for oneof these. I have asked locally about being allowed to shop on it but as it is not a wheelchair I am not allowed in the shop with one of I had one. I suspect the guy will not be getting any business off me at all now as I struggle with my walker in his crappy shop. I do most shoping on line but this is expensive .
What are the laws regarding one on a pavement. I can see me being hauled in by local bobby. Will i have to use it on the road only?
There should be no implications as they’re not motorised. They’re no bigger than an electric wheelchair which can be used on the pavement
Tr Walton, in what way is it not a wheelchair? Regardless, even if it weren’t a wheelchair, it is a mobility aid – if you have a disability and a shop were to refuse you entry with your mobility aid, they would almost certainly be in breach of the Equality Act.
Totally agree!!
Can someone tell me if the Alinker bike is available to try in the UK.
Hi Unfortunately we don’t know of anywhere in the UK. They give this as their contact in the UK
‘Karen is our contact in the UK & Ireland. Please send inquiries to karen@thealinker.com‘
Why are non of the links work?
