Update Aug 2016: BBS Director Paul Mounsey presents a cheque for £750 to Robert Carter at The Royal Academy of Music. The proceeds of BBS MIX 2016 concert will again be awarded as a bursary to Soprano, Fiona Joice who suffers from dyslexia and dyscalculia.

The recipient of last year’s bursary, Fiona Joice, Soprano, said “I was absolutely thrilled to be awarded this scholarship. It has gone a long way to paying my fees and has made a huge difference to the quality of my experience at the Royal Academy.  Throughout my education I’ve struggled with my dyslexia and dyscalculia. Since studying music I feel I have found my niche”.

Another great success and we would like to thank everyone who took part, musicians & audience, and of course Paul who arranged the bar!!

Not only a mix of styles there’s also a mix of disabled and able-bodied talent. Several acts are signed up to play, ranging from a dyslexic soprano to jazz & folk bands. There’s also the premier of a new pop/dance song. So whatever ‘your thaing’ you WILL enjoy it – there’s a champagne reception too. Buy tickets here £9 in advance £15 on night.

Here’s a taster of last year’s concert by James Welland…..he’ll also be there on 11th May

The concert is taking place in the gorgeous St George’s Church in Bloomsbury, (London WC1A 2SA),which was built in the 18th century but is fully accessible – old buildings can be adapted! The event is in honour of our new and improved product the BBSGallery – showing a venue from the aspect of multiple disabilities, as well as the BBS Bursary for Musicians With Disabilities at The Royal Academy of Music. Last year it was awarded to the soprano Fiona Joice who used the award to purchase manuscripts that were adapted to her dyslexia.
